Angola is one of the first countries to receive assistance from the international aviation organization

Angola and Mozambique were the first two countries to benefit from 'Sanitary Corridor' aid, from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), having received material, support, training and other resources, announced this entity that brings together the airlines.

"Angola and Mozambique became the first countries in the world to benefit from the ICAO 'Sanitary Corridor' implementation package, which is one of several pandemic recovery tools provided by ICAO to national governments," the entity announced.

In a statement, ICAO also states that "the implementation packages served as key resources to combat the pandemic during the recovery efforts of the air transport sector" and are composed of "guidance material, expert support, training and other resources, corresponding to the latest recommendations from the ICAO Council Working Group on Aviation Recovery, the World Health Organization and other contributors to the 'Handbook of Testing and Cross-Border Risk Management Measures'".

This package, said ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, quoted in the communiqué, "allows States to improve preparedness and responses to public health events, and more specifically to take steps to establish defined corridors between specific destinations that have comprehensive health and safety measures have been implemented".

The set of measures has served as "core global resources against the pandemic during air transport recovery efforts, in areas including security risk management, passenger and cargo facilitation, aviation security and airport reopening", it reads in the note.

"It is with great honor and pleasure that the Civil Aviation Authority of Mozambique has received this invitation to be part of ICAO's pioneering project called 'Corredor Sanitário', together with Angola, a country with which Mozambique has a long history of political and sociocultural ties", commented the president of the Civil Aviation Authority of Mozambique, João Martins de Abreu.

"Being chosen to be at the center of precepts that will help other countries to better deal with situations similar to those the world is experiencing is a source of satisfaction for our country, and once again we reiterate our commitment to the causes of civil aviation, and in safeguarding the protection of professionals in our sector, as well as the population in general", added the official.
