Vandalism in abandoned oil well causes spill in Cabinda

An act of vandalism is at the origin of a spill in an abandoned oil well in the town of Malembo, province of Cabinda, announced the National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), which supervises the containment works.

:

According to a statement from the Angolan concessionaire for the 'upstream' segment (extraction and exploration of oil), the incident took place in an oil well on land, abandoned in the 1960s and inactive since then.

The well “is spilling oil as a result of the vandalism that it has been subjected to in recent days by unidentified elements, who tried to remove a line next to the well and, therefore, compromised the integrity of the line, causing the spill”, he says. the ANPG note.

At the moment, containment works are being carried out, technically supervised by the ANPG, in conjunction with the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (Mirempet) and the local authorities, says the concessionaire, ensuring “everything is done so that the situation is resolved in the best way and as soon as possible".
