President calls for “concerted action” and local “solutions” to conflicts in Africa

President João Lourenço, this Monday, in Praia, was concerned about the security situation in Africa in recent times and called for “concerted action” by African States to seek and implement local “solutions”.

:

"The continent should not be fooled into saying that the solutions will come from Europe, Asia or America, the solutions must be found and implemented by us, the children of Africa", defended Lourenço, in an intervention at a special session at the National Assembly of Cabo. Verde, as part of the program of his visit to the archipelago.

The head of state said he was concerned about the security situation in Africa lately, with the spread of terrorist actions in the countries of the Sahel region, from Libya, the Horn of Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and, more recently, in Mozambique.

"The removal of power by force of arms, from Governments legitimized in the polls and democratic elections, often stimulated and financed by diffuse interests, must also deserve a concerted action of African States at regional and continental level", he suggested.

The President listed initiatives taken to reverse the trend, namely an initiative by Angola to promote a summit on terrorism and unconstitutional changes in Africa, which will take place in Equatorial Guinea, on the 28th and 29th of May.

Concerning relations with Cape Verde, João Lourenço reaffirmed his desire to establish a "true strategic partnership", with cooperation in areas such as public administration, education, agriculture, transport, tourism, services and at parliamentary level.

"Our two countries have resources and enormous human potential to explore much more the areas of cooperation in which we are stronger", he outlined, predicting a rapprochement between the two countries with the imminent reopening of the Luanda-Praia air route. -Luanda.

The president of the National Assembly of Cape Verde, Austelino Correia, highlighted the historic relations between the two countries, noting that they have given "palpable results", but also expressed an interest in raising it to a strategic level.

The head of the Cape Verdean parliamentary house warned of the "complex, chaotic and contradictory environment" that the world is currently experiencing and said that it is necessary to think of alternatives to meet energy and food security needs.

In this sense, he noted the importance of the African continent, where he said that some countries can become major 'players' on a world scale, including Angola.

"It is our firm expectation that Angola will stand out in this new situation, from the outset in the fuel sector, of which it is already an important producer and supplier, and in the field of agriculture, which can and must, given the natural conditions at its disposal, become a major platform for the production and supply of food, with particular growth in the context of the CPLP [Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries], especially in the PALOP [African Countries of Portuguese Official Language]", suggested Austelino Correia.
