UNITA calls on the Government to solve electoral registration problems

The UNITA parliamentary group appealed to the executive to overcome “technical and structural constraints” that are hampering electoral registration with the risk of thousands of Angolans being left out of this process, with completion scheduled for 31 March.

The recommendation appears in the final communiqué released this Saturday, after the end of the X parliamentary days of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), which took place in the city of Bié (Cuíto), between the 9th and 11th of March.

UNITA also reinforces its appeal to citizens of voting age to update their registration in order to be able to exercise their right to vote in the general elections scheduled for August 2022.

During the days, the deputies consulted citizens about their problems, namely extreme poverty and unemployment "which leads to worrying levels of crime in the communities", and special attention was also given to updating the electoral register, with visits to the BUAP (Balcão Único Service to the Public) installed in the province.

"There were some concerns about the process, more specifically the difficulty in accessing the registration due to the lack of the BI, the lack of transport, difficulties with the Internet and access to certain areas. It is also worrying that only two fixed posts were installed in the municipality of Cuíto and in the Commune of Kunje, leaving the populations of the peripheral areas deprived of access to registration", says UNITA, stressing that this situation "will jeopardize the right to vote for thousands of voting citizens".

In the same document, UNITA also asks the Court of Auditors to publish the results of audits of the State's accounts, "not only as an exercise in transparency", but so that the resulting consequences can be evaluated, especially in terms of budgetary discipline. .

Another of the recommendations is addressed to the National Assembly, suggesting that deputies can count on a technical budget support unit, within the scope of their functions of supervising the execution of the general budget of the State, also appealing to the need to effectively control the maximum limit of executive debt.
