As part of the Public Investment Programme, the construction of the unit – valued at US$136,543,371.40 – is expected to take around two years.

According to Angop, the project will be built in an area of around 27,000 square meters and will comprise four floors and a ground floor. In addition to wards, the future unit will also have four blocks and three delivery rooms.

Emergency services, physiotherapy, imaging, endoscopy, diagnostics in the areas of X-ray, radiofluoroscopy, ultrasound, mammography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance, will also be part of the infrastructure, which will have a capacity for 200 beds.

Sílvia Lutucuta indicated that the unit will include pediatric, obstetric and maternity services.

Cited by Angop, the Health minister indicated that the future unit was conceived as a reference infrastructure, with a view to not only responding to Huambo, but also to other areas of the country.

The head of the Health portfolio also made it known that the infrastructure will link the medical assistance component to the training aspect.

She also took the opportunity to reiterate the continuous commitment to improving the primary health network, which through the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) has been building and rehabilitating primary units.

"Our challenge is the continuous provision of humanized services to the population, through better working conditions, qualified and committed professionals", said the minister quoted by Angop.

Lotti Nolika, governor of Huambo province, also mentioned by Angop, considered that the construction of the hospital will grant more dignity to the care of children and mothers.

Pediatrics at the General Hospital has proved incapable of meeting the needs of specialized services, said the governor, asking the contractor to speed up the completion of the work.
