The Head of Division of the European Investment Bank for Sub-Saharan Africa, Diederik Zambom, met with the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, and the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, in Brussels, in a meeting that served to review the bank's activity in Angola, namely financing for the public and private sectors.
The bank official, quoted in the statement, said that his institution "is interested in financing initiatives related to basic sanitation, hydroelectric energy production infrastructure and connection of the electricity grid between Angola and neighboring countries, especially Namibia".
Mário Caetano João said that "the possibility of the bank creating some financial packages for the private sector, via commercial banking, but also through the Development Bank of Angola" was analysed, with the institution also available to finance projects in the blue economy.
According to the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the EIB will donate one million euros to finance the completion of studies on the Baynes Hydroelectric Power Plant, developed in partnership with Namibia.
The Ministers of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, of Industry and Commerce, Vítor Fernandes, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, and the ambassador of Angola to the Kingdom of Belgium and Luxembourg, Mário Constantino, also met with the Directorates of International Relations of the European Union, External Action and the General Directorate of Commerce, to analyze the partnership program "Joint Angola-European Union path, budget support, the economic partnership agreement and the Sustainable Investment Facilitation Agreement.
Members of the executive are in Brussels to participate in the first EU-Angola Business Forum, which aims to promote investment in the country, bringing together 800 participants, including 20 heads of the main European companies.
