The Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, inaugurated a maternal and child center with 30 beds in Menongue, Cuando Cubango province. With this centre, called the Centro de Saúde Materno-infantil Satchikanda, the population of Menongue will no longer have to travel long distances to access medical care.

The health minister considered that this unit has good conditions and that it will ensure better assistance to the citizens of that area.

"We have very good conditions here, both for working conditions for our professionals and for assistance (...) and that will in fact guarantee us better assistance at that level and prevent people from rushing to other levels, they go to the municipal hospital or else to the general hospital of Cuando Cubango", said the minister, quoted by the Public Television of Angola (TPA).

The centre, which has a capacity for 30 beds, is divided into two blocks, one for children and the other for pregnant women.

According to TPA, pregnant women will be monitored from the beginning of pregnancy and during childbirth, as well as with regard to the vaccination of children up to nine months.

One of the professionals, in statements to TPA, made it known that the obstetrics block includes delivery, pre-delivery and post-delivery rooms and also includes "immunization services" and "infirmary, inpatient and obstetrician rooms".

The opening of this infrastructure allowed eight new nurses to be included.
