Afrikanizm Art Platform: the first Angolan startup dedicated to contemporary art has arrived

Founded in August 2021 by Angolans Laura Leal and João Boavida, both art lovers and focused on creating a positive impact, Afrikanizm Art Platform is the first Angolan startup focused on the online promotion and sale of art by artists of African descent, resident in Africa or the diaspora, which the platform refers to as 'Afrikanizts'.

Created with the aim of helping African contemporary art to be recognized and valued, giving voice and opportunities to African artists, the startup is committed to promoting and continuing the development of visual arts in an increasingly digital world, and already has a of 30 plastic artists.

"In seven months, we have been asserting ourselves thanks to the fulfillment of our promise to create a positive impact, taking African art beyond the borders of Africa. we know, we have already managed to carry out the
first part of our dream of taking the work of our plastic artists and African art, as a global brand, to the American continent and Europe", says João Boavida, founder of Afrikanizm Art Platform, in a statement sent to VerAngola.

Supporting emerging artists in Angola and Africa to have their stories and works energized in what are the largest art markets in the world, such as the United States of America, England, France and Italy, in a market that globally represents more than 62 thousand million US dollars, Afrikanizm signed a partnership agreement with DHL, one of the largest logistics companies on the planet, thus enabling the delivery of works by African artists in record time and safely anywhere in the world.

In addition to the central work that is developed online, Afrikanizm will also have an offline presence, through the creation of physical initiatives, such as collective and individual exhibitions, ensuring a close relationship between plastic artists, institutions, foundations and private collectors.

"We are very happy to be able to show young people that it is possible to dream and bet on a business that allows us to do good, helping to defend art and supporting African creators to gain more and more international recognition", says Laura Leal, co-author startup founder.

The online art business still represents a small share of the volume of the global market, having, however, shown a strong growth, with the two largest e-commerce players presenting, together, a turnover of more than 200 million of dollars in 2020.
