South of the country with more than two thousand kilometers of roads by 2024

By 2024, the Executive plans to build another 2,142 kilometers of paved roads in the provinces of Namibe, Cunene, Huíla and Cuando Cubango.

The four provinces are priorities of the Executive, within the scope of road and housing projects, according to the Secretary of State for Public Works, Carlos dos Santos, during the third edition of 'CaféCIPRA', which dealt with "Projects of great social impact in the south of Angola", last Friday.

According to the achievements report of the Public Works sector in 2021, in 11,809 kilometers of roads, 2,650 have already been paved, corresponding to a rate of 22.4 percent of execution.

For Carlos dos Santos, the country's development is also achieved through easier access to roads, such as roads and bridges. "Development is not possible if there are no roads, if there are no bridges. This action not only contributes to the movement of people and goods, but also allows the action of other sectors to reach certain places. there are roads. So it's our responsibility to do that," he said.

Among the sections to be asphalted, the Secretary of State for Public Works highlighted the rehabilitation of the Ondjiva-Omala and Xangongo-Calueque road, having advanced that the completion of these works is scheduled for 2023.

Carlos dos Santos made it known that the Construction and Territorial Planning sector, in general, has the responsibility of taking care of two sub-sectors, road and housing, which are useful for the country's development.

Housing is also a priority

In the scope of projects related to housing, he said that the great strategic vision is not just to make centralities or other social projects, but to provide infrastructure land for every citizen of the southern region, especially the residents of the provinces of Namibe, Cunene, Huíla and Cuando Cubango.

Regarding the construction of centralities, in the province of Namibe, 2000 houses were built in the centrality of 'Praia Amélia' and an equal number in Huíla, in the centrality of '5 de Abril'.

Carlos dos Santos also announced that there are still 8000 houses in Huíla in the new 'Centralidade da Quilemba', which is currently being completed.

In Cunene province, 1,000 houses are under construction at 'Ekuma Centrality', currently with a 20 percent advance of the work. In Ondjiva, 450 social houses are also being finished to serve the populations of this area.

In Cuando Cabango, the construction of the 'Centralidade do Tucuve', in Menongue, is under way.
