"We want, as of next school year, to start teaching English in the third cycle of primary education," Grilo said on Friday during a ceremony to receive teaching materials donated by the British Embassy in Angola.

Cited by Rádio Nacional de Angola, Grilo said that for the government to be able to fulfill the measure, it will be necessary to "train teachers who also teach elementary school.

Admitting that this will not be an "easy task", she indicated that this is a challenge taken on by the Executive: "It is a challenge we have taken on, so that from a very early age the learning of the English language allows our young people and our children and adolescents to have access to another type of literature".

"Building literacy today also implies mastering foreign languages, especially those of wider scope. A language like English, where we, Angola, share a vast border with Anglophone countries, it makes all the sense to start very early to give our children the opportunity to dialogue with others from Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, those who are very close to us," he added.

Also on the occasion Caetano Domingos, director of the National Institute for Staff Training of the Ministry of Education, took the opportunity to say that the material that the country received this Friday will help to benefit more than 100 trainers in Luanda.
