Among the initiatives of the integrated project to be developed between SMC and its partners, which will be accompanied by traditional authorities, are school and hospital infrastructures, reforestation projects, mines and community cooperatives.
The document, valid for two years, was ratified at the end of the Days on Citizenship and Public Security, organized by UFOLO - Center for Studies for Good Governance, which took place between the 9th and 10th of March.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the diamond industry, traditional and ecclesiastical authorities, police officers, members of the Executive and civil society to discuss solutions to socio-economic problems and systemic violence in the region, about a month after the incidents in Cafunfo, which resulted in several deaths and injuries.
On January 30, according to the police, about 300 people linked to the Portuguese Protectorate Movement Lunda Tchokwe (MPPLT), which defends the autonomy of this diamond-rich region, tried to invade a police station and six people died when the forces of order and security repelled the alleged attackers.
The police version is contradicted by MPPLT leaders, opposition political parties and local civil society who speak of more than 20 deaths in what they say was an attempted demonstration.
