Bornito de Sousa will be the guest of honor of the president of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat at the event, which marks the 3rd of March, African Environment Day and Wangari Maathhai Day.

A statement sent to VerAngola states that the invitation of the AU Commission chairman signals recognition of Angola's political commitment "to reverse the trend of degradation of the mangrove ecosystem, with the involvement of policy makers, non-governmental organizations and the civil society in general ".

As part of this institutional effort to raise awareness of the problem of so-called wetlands of international interest - which include various mangrove ecosystems, Angola held a workshop on Wetlands at the national level on 2 February.

The initiative was attended by different sectors of the Government, legislators, academics and representatives of national environmental organizations linked to the protection of mangroves.

The international conference on "Strengthening Political Commitments in the Conservation and Improvement of Mangroves in Africa", the first on the theme, held entirely by webinar, will include the participation of ministers responsible for the sectors of Environment, Fisheries and Blue Economy of Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Congo, Cameroon, Madagascar, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria, Djibouti, Ivory Coast and Ghana.
