According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the organization's 55 member states is 4,123,632 and the number recovered in the last 24 hours is 9075, for one total of 3,690,718 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, with 1,890,949 infected and 59,219 killed by contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,538,451 cases and 52,196 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,229,276 infected and 35,003 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 465,004 infections and 8477 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 423,096 and that of deaths is 5547. Central Africa has 115,308 cases and 1918 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,637 deaths and 196,061 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8769 deaths and 491,834 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8569 deaths and 245,923 cases, Algeria, with 3061 deaths and 125,255 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2674 fatalities and 188,902 infections.
In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 747 deaths and 66,306 cases, followed by Angola (530 deaths and 21,757 cases of infection), Cape Verde (160 deaths and 16,517 cases), Equatorial Guinea (101 deaths and 6780 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (55 dead and 3568 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2157 cases).
