Country announces 24 new cases and three more deaths from covid-19

The country recorded 24 new cases of covid-19, and three deaths, as well as 17 recoveries from the disease, in the last 24 hours, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, revealed Monday.

The cases were reported in Luanda (11), Huila (8), Namibe (4) and Malanje (1), aged between 2 and 54 years, of which 17 were male and the rest female.

Three deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, all Angolans aged 45, 58 and 69, from Luanda province.

Seventeen people aged between 12 and 67 have also been considered recovered from the disease.

The total number of cases in Angola is 21,757, of which 530 have died, 20,090 are reported recovered, and 1137 are active.

Laboratories have processed 470 samples out of a cumulative 419,569.

A total of 966 people have been vaccinated in Benguela province, out of a total of 71,378 people already immunized, said Franco Mufinda, reiterating the efficacy and safety of AstraZeneca's vaccine that is being administered in the country.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,716,035 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 123 million cases of infection, according to an assessment made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
