Africa records 107,001 deaths and 4,005,204 infected with covid-19

Africa has recorded 107,001 deaths associated with covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of cases of infections has risen to 4,005,204, and the number of recovered to 3,589,067, according to the most recent official data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,865,933 infected and 57,898 killed. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,525,648 cases and 51,110 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,191,593 infected and 34,013 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 428,881 infections and 7933 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 407,254 and that of deaths is 5287. Central Africa has 111,543 cases and 1870 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,169 deaths and 189,000 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8712 deaths and 487,750 cases.

Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8313 deaths and 239,977 cases, Algeria, with 3030 dead and 114,759 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2483 fatalities and 171,210 infections.

In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 725 deaths and 64,516 cases, followed by Angola (521 deaths and 21,380 cases of infection), Cape Verde (156 deaths and 16,101 cases), Equatorial Guinea (98 deaths and 6562 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (53 dead and 3447 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (32 dead and 2057 cases).
