Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,838,637 infected and 56,555 killed. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, recorded 1,513,959 cases and exceeded 50 thousand deaths (50,077).
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,164,994 infected and 33,042 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 407,382 infections and 7600 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 390,581 and the number of deaths has exceeded 5,000 (5016).
Central Africa has 104,342 cases and 1799 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 10,736 deaths and 183,010 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8637 fatalities and 483,766 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8022 deaths and 233,669 cases of infection accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic, Algeria, with 2989 deaths and 113,163 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2373 fatalities and 159,972 infections.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique recorded 653 deaths and 59,607 cases, followed by Angola (508 deaths and 20,854 cases of infection), Cape Verde (147 deaths and 15,432 cases), Equatorial Guinea (92 deaths and 6095 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (48 dead and 3262 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (30 killed and 1828 cases).
