At least one killed in floods in four provinces

Angola on Friday recorded heavy rains in four regions of the country, with the death of a child, in the municipality of Lobito, Benguela province, and several flooded homes and impassable roads, announced the National Civil Protection and Fire Service.

According to the national director of institutional communication and press of the National Civil Protection and Fire Service, Félix Luciano, in Luanda there are records of tree falls and several floods of houses and roads in the municipality of Viana and the district of Kilamba Kiaxi.

"In Luanda there have been rains since dawn today and there we are having reports of falls from some trees, which are already deserving the care and treatment by our forces, also the registration of houses flooded by some neighborhoods and districts and flooded roads due to the amount of water, "said Félix Luciano, speaking to public radio.

The official stressed that for the capital of the country, where there were rains on the 16th, 18th and this Friday, the damages are still to be calculated, stressing that the Provincial Civil Protection Commission met for, along with the municipalities, districts and neighborhoods do a more accurate survey of rain damage.

Regarding the province of Benguela, as a consequence of the rains, the National Road number 100 was temporarily banned, in the section between Lobito and Catumbela, due to the flooding of the drainage ditches.

In Cunene, one of the provinces most affected by the drought facing the south of the country, it experienced intense rains, which left several main and secondary roads impassable, informed Félix Luciano, highlighting the municipality of Namacunde and the locality of Santa Clara, region that gives access to the neighboring Republic of Namibia.

In Cuando Cubango, the official continued, there were also rains, which caused floods, also expressing concern about the locust plague in the region.

"It rains all over the country, it rained a lot in the province of Cuando Cubango, which puts the agricultural production of this year at risk. There are two phenomena of concern: rain and locust invasion, in the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale", stressed Félix Luciano, stressing that data from the Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics of Angola report that "it will rain a lot".

In a provisional assessment, the spokesman for the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Benguela, Jorge David, announced the death of a child in Lobito, following the collapse of his residence.

"The balance we have is provisional, unfortunately, there is a record of a dead person, being a minor, a fact that occurred due to the collapse of the residence, the room where this minor slept. There was also flooding and flooding of the main streets of the city of Lobito, the work continues and at the end of the day we will have the final balance ", indicated Jorge David, in statements to the radio.
