Elephants destroy 20 hectares of cultivation in commune of Huíla province

Herds of elephants have already destroyed 20 hectares of maize and vegetable crops in Mulondo commune, Matala municipality, Huíla province, according to local authorities.

:

The information was advanced by the municipal administrator of Mulondo, Lúcia Ngueve, who expressed the concern of the inhabitants of that area, which was also affected by the drought.

"In fact, elephants are damaging the little culture that the population has, we no longer have rain, and as if that were not enough, those small crops that the population managed to make, unfortunately, the elephant is damaging", stressed Lúcia Ngueve.

The human / animal conflict in Angola has been going on for several years, intensifying since the end of the war in the country, in 2002, when the animals started to return to their habitat.

In addition to the elephants, the population complains, time and again, about the invasion of their plantations also by hippos.
