TAAG suspends flights to Porto due to increased contagion from Covid-19

The airline TAAG will suspend flights to the city of Porto from this Monday due to the increase in contagion from the new coronavirus in northern Portugal, the company announced on Friday.

The decision by TAAG - Linha Aéreas de Angola SA is justified by the fact that "there has been an increase in the infection of the coronavirus in the northern region of Portugal," according to a statement issued on Friday by the company.

In the note, TAAG said that passengers with tickets purchased from and to Porto should contact the shops, the 'call-center' and travel agents.

"The remaining flights are not affected by this precautionary measure and the area operations are running smoothly", he adds.

Portugal has 245 confirmed cases. Angola has no new coronavirus cases, responsible for Covid-19.

Seventeen African countries have registered the disease, 13 of which are in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the latest data from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The new coronavirus responsible for Covid-19 was detected in December in China and has already caused more than 4,900 deaths worldwide, leading the WHO to declare the disease a pandemic.

The number of infected people has exceeded 131,000, with cases reported in over 120 countries and territories, including Portugal, which has 245 confirmed cases.
