Covid-19: Africa with more than 60 deaths and almost 2500 cases

Africa recorded more than 60 deaths and almost 2500 cases of infections with the new coronavirus in 47 countries and territories, according to the latest statistics on the covid-19 pandemic.

In total, 2421 cases of infection have been recorded on this continent since the beginning of the pandemic and 64 deaths, according to data from the first daily bulletin of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) of the African Union, which reports data recorded until the 9:30 am from Addis Ababa (7:30 am from Luanda).

Africa CDC records deaths from covid-19 in 14 African countries: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Sudan, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.

Apart from these statistics are the first infections announced in Guinea-Bissau and Mali, as well as the first death caused by the covi-19 in Cape Verde.
According to the same source, the continent still has 203 recovered patients, numbers that bring the total number of active infections down to 2228.

Egypt accounts for 20 deaths and 402 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, being the African country with the highest number of fatalities caused by the disease, but also with the largest number of recovered patients (80). Second is Algeria, with 19 deaths out of 264 infections.

South Africa remains the country with the highest number of accumulated cases of infection in Africa (709), with no deaths.

Burkina Faso and Morocco (4), Tunisia (3), and DR Congo, Ghana and Mauritius (2), Zimbabwe, Sudan, Nigeria, Gambia and Gabon (1) maintain the number of fatalities, adding to these the first victims recorded in Cameroon (1) and Cape Verde (1).

Tunisia (114) Senegal (86), Nigeria (46) are other countries with significant numbers of infections and with no record of fatalities associated with the disease.
In Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde each register three cases of covid-19 in their territories, with Guinea-Bissau confirming its first two cases.

The new coronavirus, responsible for the covid-19 pandemic, has already infected 427,940 people in more than 181 countries and territories, causing the death of more than 19 thousand.
