Speaking to Lusa, the spokesperson for the Provincial Command for Civil Protection and Firefighters, Daniel Correia, said that the rains, accompanied by wind, caused mobility difficulties due to flooding on secondary and tertiary roads, due to the rise in flows in drainage ditches and water lines.
So far, he stressed, no victims have been recorded, and information is still being collected on the number of homes affected and families displaced.
In the municipality of Mulenvos, the progression of a ravine threatens some houses and road traffic and there is also the possibility of overflow in some retention basins due to the rise in water levels.
There are also fallen trees in some parts of the city, said Daniel Correia.
According to the spokesperson for the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), Lauro Fortunato, quoted in the Jornal de Angola, power was also cut in some neighborhoods due to faults in the medium voltage network and at the request of some residents to avoid electrical discharges and other damage.
In the next few hours, moderate rains are expected to continue, according to the Angolan National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INAMET), said Daniel Correia.
