According to activist Serrote José de Oliveira, the "peaceful and orderly" demonstration is a promotion of the so-called National Unity for Total Revolution in Angola (UNTRA) and was communicated to the administrative and police authorities in Luanda.
"We are going to protest against unemployment, demand that the governor of Luanda build public bathrooms, because citizens in Luanda go to the bathroom on every corner, and also the 500,000 jobs promised by the President of the Republic that we are not seeing," the UNTRA leader told Lusa this Wednesday.
The demonstration, scheduled to gather on Saturday morning at the São Paulo Market, is expected to travel through several streets in Luanda until Largo da Maianga. It also aims to alert authorities to the need to reduce the basic food basket and improve citizens' living conditions, he said.
Serrote José de Oliveira, also known as "General Nila", said that his organization had already communicated the demonstration to the government of Luanda, the Minister of the Interior and the Luanda Provincial Command of the National Police.
He reiterated that the march will be "orderly and peaceful", with the aim of getting his message across so that the Government can resolve the problems of the Angolan people, asking the national police to adopt a republican stance.
"We are just complying with the law, showing discontent is not a crime, it is just demanding our rights and we expect a republican stance from the police", concluded the activist, urging the people of Luanda to participate in the demonstration.
