According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting took place this Friday, at the Presidential Palace, in Luanda.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Austelino Correia said he had taken the opportunity to "congratulate President João Lourenço on his election to preside over the African Union".

"On the same occasion, Austelino Tavares Correia mentioned the intelligent and competent way in which President João Lourenço deals with complex issues such as regional conflicts in Africa," the note says.

The parliamentary leader of Cape Verde also recalled the "historical and traditional relations, in the most varied domains, between Cape Verde and Angola".

It is worth remembering that Austelino Correia is visiting Angola, at the invitation of Carolina Cerqueira, president of the National Assembly.

It is also worth mentioning that, last Wednesday, the two countries strengthened their parliamentary partnership by signing the Parliamentary Cooperation Program for the 2025/2026 biennium.
