João Lourenço lands in Ethiopia to make history and is welcomed to the sound of Tchianda

The sound and rhythm of Tchianda invaded the Addis Ababa airport to welcome the President of the Republic, who landed this Thursday in the capital of Ethiopia, where he will assume the presidency of the African Union. Never before had Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the continental organization, so this mission will write an important page of history in Angola's book.

According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço's arrival in Addis Ababa was a special moment, as his disembarkation was done to the rhythm of the tchianda.

"In a note worthy of note, because it was unprecedented, the President of Angola was received, when he landed at Addis Ababa airport, by a group of Angolan Tchianda dancers, while listening to a song written by one of the most representative authors/interpreters of the famous rhythm of Eastern Angola, Gabriel Tchiema", reads the note.

João Lourenço's agenda in that country is full, and its highlight will be on Saturday, when he assumes the rotating presidency of the African Union.

However, work begins this Friday, with João Lourenço participating in a high-level meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, where he is expected to give a speech.

"However, this Friday, one day after his arrival in the Ethiopian capital, the President of the Republic of Angola begins to fulfill his work program, participating in a high-level meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, expressly convened to address the critical security situations in Sudan and the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)," the statement said.

"President João Lourenço is expected to speak at this meeting, which is expected to be attended by figures such as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the presidents of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, and of Rwanda, Paul Kagame," the note adds.

Saturday will be the day of the inauguration ceremony of João Lourenço as president of the continental organization.

"The ceremony in which João Lourenço will receive from the hands of his predecessor (Head of State of Mauritania) the symbolic baton of rotating power will take place on the morning of the 15th, in the most eagerly awaited of the plenary sessions scheduled for the annual edition – the thirty-eighth – of the Summit Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union", reads the statement.

Thus, when he returns to Luanda next Monday, João Lourenço "will already be the new acting president of the African Union".
