CIPRA, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, informs that João Lourenço left the country "mid-morning this Thursday".

On this mission, the President is accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.

According to CIPRA, João Lourenço will assume the presidency of the AU on Saturday.

"The President of the Republic will work these days in the city of Addis Ababa, headquarters of the African Union, within the scope of the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government of Africa, and should, in the main event, on Saturday, assume the pro tempore presidency of the largest continental political organization. In the post, João Lourenço will replace the President of Mauritania", says the note.

It is worth noting that this is the first time that Angola has assumed the presidency of this organization, an achievement that takes place in the year in which the country marks the 50th anniversary of national independence.

"Never before had Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the continental bloc, a precursor of African independence and, at the present time, the main driver of its socioeconomic development and a factor of peace and harmony among the more than 50 States that make up the continent, the cradle of Humanity", CIPRA also points out.
