Government denies FAF about lack of financial support in CAN2023

The government, through the ministry of youth and sports, this Wednesday denied the president of the FAF, who recently said that the national football team participated in the African Cup of Nations without financial support from the state.

The information was provided by the secretary general of the aforementioned ministry, Cátia Teixeira, who considered the statements misleading and Artur Almeida e Silva, leader of the Angolan Football Federation.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports expresses its total disgust with the unacceptable statements made by Mr. Artur Almeida e Silva, president of the FAF, who alleges a lack of financial support from the state for the Angolan team in the African Cup of Nations, and these statements are not only misleading, but also disrespectful”, said Cátia Teixeira.

According to the general secretary, the information that the selection arrived at CAN without any financial support from the state “is a pure distortion of the facts, with no one knowing the reasons for the false revelations”.

“The Ministry of Youth Sports categorically states that the Angolan state took appropriate measures to make monetary values available, within the limits of financial capacity and budget allocation, to ensure the participation of our team in the competition”, she guaranteed.

When Angola reached the round of 16, the president of the FAF said that the national football team had not benefited from financial support from the state, and that it had to go into debt to cover expenses in the competition.

Angola reached the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023), missing out on progress to the next stage after losing 1-0 to Nigeria, in Abidjan.
