The news was announced by the president of the national football governing body, Artur Almeida e Silva, who, in a few words, did not provide any further details.
"Pedro Gonçalves will remain in charge of the national team and the next challenge is the World Championship in 2026" he assured.
The decision was made after information pointed to the departure of the Portuguese coach, who is at the end of his contract, after Angola's elimination in the CAN 'quarters', taking place in Côte d'Ivoire.
In the African football competition, the Angolan team was eliminated by José Peseiro's Nigeria, after a 1-0 defeat.
