According to a statement from the General Tax Administration (AGT), to which VerAngola had access, this Thursday the signing of the consignment notice for the construction, restructuring and modernization work of the aforementioned station took place, as well as the laying of the first stone which marked the start of the project, in a ceremony attended by Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, governor of Zaire, José Leiria, president of the Board of Directors (PCA) of AGT, among others.

This measure, says AGT, is part of the Executive's "initiative to reinforce border posts throughout the national territory and increase customs revenue for the State's coffers".

Furthermore, the construction and modernization of this post also aims to "achieve the objective of implementing a one-stop service that will facilitate cross-border commercial exchanges", says the AGT statement.

According to AGT's PCA, the project is expected to take just over a year and a half to complete. Quoted in a statement from the Provincial Government of Zaire – to which VerAngola had access –, the person responsible made it known that "the financing of the work is guaranteed and that the project will be carried out within approximately 20 months".

The project, adds the note, is being carried out by Mota-Engil Angola.

On the occasion, José Leiria also considered that this project will help to combat the smuggling of goods and tax evasion. "The Luvo border post is more focused on exports, different from other similar points in the country focused on imports", he added, quoted by Angop.

In turn, the governor of Zaire mentioned the "gains that the province" will have "both from an economic point of view and from a security point of view on the border" with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Furthermore, he also "praised the personal commitment of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the materialization of this project that will bring jobs to young people in Zaire", reads the note from the provincial government.

Expected to occupy 21 hectares, the project will have several buildings reserved for the accommodation of different state bodies that are stationed on this site, as well as other services, such as the Angolan Border Guard Police, the Migration and Foreigners Service, etc. Among the services, video surveillance antennas, a medical station, a scanner to inspect goods, among others, stand out, and, according to Angop, the works are budgeted at 47 billion kwanzas.
