"From today until the next Summit Conference, Angola will occupy the position of first vice-president of the African Union, which, statutorily, means that in 2025 our country will become Acting President of the African Union", reads the press release from the Presidency.

In January, the head of Angolan diplomacy, Téte António, stated that Angola is a candidate to assume the presidency of the African Union and the seat on the Peace and Security Council in 2025, which is a focus of its actions this year.

The 37th AU summit, which began on Saturday in Addis Ababa, ended this Sunday.

Saturday, the first day of work, Mauritania was appointed to the presidency of the organization, succeeding the Comoros.
