João Lourenço and Costa Júnior launch new political year with MPLA and UNITA rallies

The two largest national parties, MPLA and UNITA, chose next Saturday to measure the pulse of popular support, marking the launch of the political year with two large rallies, in the presence of their respective leaders.

:

João Lourenço, President of Angola and leader of the MPLA, will address the militants in the urban district of Camama, in Luanda, the same place that the party chose in 2022 for its last rally before the general elections, held on 24 August 2022.

The rally will serve to present the political agenda and main guidelines of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) for 2024, with the motto "Serving the people, making Angola grow", according to the party's Facebook pages.

The party in power wants to show that, despite having suffered its worst electoral result in 2022, it still has the capacity to mobilize and promises "a big party" to try to stop the decline in popularity of the president, João Lourenço.

Adalberto da Costa Júnior, president of the largest opposition party, chose Cabinda – one of the provinces that UNITA conquered for the first time from the MPLA in the last elections, along with Luanda – to mobilize his mass of supporters at the political start of 2024.

Adalberto da Costa Júnior will promote an act of greeting and recognition to the party's militants and supporters and should keep his speech focused on the holding of local elections, since, for the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), 2024 will be a "year of national mobilization for local authorities".
