Two plants with medicinal properties discovered in Uíge

Aloe Uigensis and Impatiens Pinganoensis are the names of the two plant species recently discovered in Uíge. With medicinal properties, among other functionalities, these plants can be used to produce modern and traditional medicines, as well as food supplements and tourist attraction elements.

Information about the discovery of these new plants was provided by a team of researchers from the universities Kimpa-Vita (in the country), Dresden and Hamburg, in Germany.

It was in the Pingano mountain range that these new plant species were found, according to Thea Lautenschläger, director of the Cooperation Area at Kimpa Vita University and Hamburg Botanical Garden.

According to the person responsible, the plant research project began in 2012, in Uíge, through the University of Kimpa-Vita, whose focus was to research the plants used by citizens as traditional medicines, writes Angop.

Since then, several samples of plants with medicinal properties have been collected, such as Cuacua, Piritos, Peés, etc., added the person in charge.

Domingos dos Santos, vice-rector of Kimpa-Vita University, also cited by Angop, considered that the discovered plants have benefits for scientific research, medicines, attracting tourism at a local level, as well as a source of food.
