Joel Leonardo spoke, in Luanda, at the opening of the 2024 judicial year, highlighting that "knowing how to wait patiently" means judging in a "consistent and serene" way the "social phenomena of human life".
"It is for this reason that we are fully convinced that, sooner rather than later, our remuneration status will be readjusted, and the vulnerability and doubts that today hover and surround some less patient magistrates, will be overcome, because the bodies competent authorities of the State are committed to giving Caesar what belongs to Caesar", he emphasized.
The opening of the judicial year took place on the day that the National Union of Public Prosecutors (SNMMP) decided to stop services to demand the improvement of working conditions and remuneration, an initiative that counts on the solidarity of the Association of Judges of Angola.
Joel Leonardo also highlighted that the Superior Council of the Judiciary has taken firm steps towards consolidating the independence of the courts and carried out "concrete actions, leading to facilitating access to Justice by citizens", which they expect from the formal control bodies - police, Public Prosecutor's Office General of the Republic and courts - "quick and concrete responses".
He pointed out, however, several practical examples in which this does not happen, noting that "a lot of talk will be useless" if citizens or companies are not able to deal with their matters in a timely manner.
Therefore, he added, they are also multiplying training actions "to rescue the essence of the judge" and "tacitly celebrate a pact of loyalty and trust, between the courts and the citizens".
The opening of the 2024 judicial year took place this Friday in Luanda, with the motto "For the achievement of financial autonomy and modernization of judicial activity".
