After the film, directed by Angolan Tadisi Baruch, was in the spotlight last year at the 'Unitel Angola Moove', winning the awards for 'best feature film' and 'best actor', the film is now back in the spotlight. This time, it is on the international scene that 'Por Jade' stands out, being among the 17 contenders for this international award.
According to a statement quoted by Angop, the Angolan film is in the running for the award for best feature film at the aforementioned film festival.
If it wins the award, the directors of the national feature film will not only receive a trophy and publicity for the film on international platforms, but also one million HUA, the Hungarian currency (equivalent to approximately 2,500,000 kwanzas).
The film's director, quoted by Angop, said that the two actors in the cast want to be present at the Hungarian festival, but are reportedly facing financial difficulties in buying tickets, asking for help from public or private entities.
'Por Jade', produced by Moca-Midia and BBC Multimédia and distributed by Batuque Audiovisual, was recorded in 2022 in Luanda and Namibe.
The feature film tells the story of Suzana, an Angolan woman who falls in love with the Malian businessman living in Angola, Bakary. The two get married and, three years later, Bakary is called by his tribe of origin to resolve matters related to his family's inheritance, and the Angolan woman decides to go with her husband and take her three-year-old daughter, Jade.
Once in Mali, Suzana ends up discovering that Bakary already had three wives, and is forced to live in the same residence as the other three women.
The 'Tony Curtis International Film Festival' will take place in the city of Mátészalka (Hungary), from the 19th to the 21st of this month, and aims to pay tribute to the legacy of Tony Curtis. According to Angop, the festival, in addition to the feature film category, has two other main categories, namely documentaries and short films.
