Victor Fernandes says that “a new public tender will be held” for the management of the REA

Victor Fernandes, Minister of Commerce and Industry informed that they will hold “a new public tender when the mandate ends” for managing the Strategic Food Reserve (REA), thus confirming that the renewal with Grupo Carrinho will not take place.

The holder of the Commerce and Industry portfolio, in an interview with Expansão, clarified that "management of the reserve has time" and that "later it may or may not be renewable", having announced that what they will "do is a new public tender when it ends the mandate".

Asked about the fact that they are not going to renew with Grupo Carrinho, Victor Fernandes reiterated that they will carry out a new public tender "later this year or at the beginning of next".

"A new public tender will be held, as I told you, I think that this year or at the beginning of the next one, I just have to confirm whether there are three or four years of mandate. As I told you, what we have to worry about is the importance of REA", he said, speaking to Expansão.

In the interview with Expansão, the minister also explained the reason why Grupo Carrinho is in the REA. "It is necessary to explain why the Carrinho Group is in the REA. People have already forgotten that there was a public tender, in which several groups participated, including international ones. The Carrinho group came in a consortium, it did not even come alone, and it won. that his partner never took over the management, he left soon. But that is a problem of the partners, it is not the one who made the tender", said the minister to Expansão.

Confronted with the fact that this could have been a strategy, Victor Fernandes said he didn't think so, referring that partners get together and "then, in the business world, there are difficulties and these things happen".

"I hope not, because otherwise we'd have a problem with the regulator. I don't think so. Partners unite and then, in the business world, there are difficulties and these things happen. This fact must be looked at in the following light: they are or not managing the reserve well? Are they doing a good job?", he asked, quoted by Expansão.

When asked if he thinks they are doing a good job, Victor Fernandes reaffirmed: "yes! The management of the reserve has time, it's three years. After that it may or may not be renewable. In fact, what we are going to do is a new tender public when his term ends".
