Angola qualifies for the ninth time for the Basketball World Cup

The National Basketball Team qualified for the ninth time for the World Championship, the sixth consecutive, winning all the fifth and last phase of determination, which took place in Luanda.

The Angolans thus secured the second place in the group and of African qualification, with 18 points, guaranteed by eight wins and two defeats in the classification 'Overall', which brings together the 18 matches of the calculation phases. The national team is technically tied with Cote d'Ivoire, in the first position, which only exceeds Angola in specific tiebreaker statistics, such as the number of points marked.

In the walk for the determination, the Angolans were confident in the Kilmaba Multipurpose Pavilion, starting by defeating Uganda for undisputed 82x49. Already on Saturday, the victory that secured the 'pass' to the World Cup to the national team was against Cape Verde, by 80x67. Despite already the guaranteed finding, the team made the full, also reaching the victory against Nigeria, by 65x59.

In the combined games played in the capital were the national team António Monteiro, Gerson Domingos, Gerson Lukeny and Childe Dundão.

Angola has the best participation the ninth place reached in the 2006 World Cup, played in Japan.

The 19th edition of the Basketball World Championship will be played between August 25 and September 10, in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
