According to the police in Luanda, the death of the minor "had no relation to the demonstration" held in the district by taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers and residents, in protest against the poor condition of the main road.
In a statement, the police say that they dispersed the demonstrators around 1:30 pm and that afterwards, in an attempt to prevent retaliation between rival groups, they were "surprised by throwing stones and other objects, resulting in injuries to two law enforcement officers", one of the which were hit severely in the head.
"Faced with the situation, the police forces were forced to defend themselves, firing shots to disperse them, with one of the shots hitting the citizen, so an inquiry was opened to establish the facts", he stresses.
The Provincial Command "regrets" the incident and is available to provide the necessary support to the bereaved family, and calls on citizens to refrain from any act of disorder and to remain calm.
Residents of the urban district of Ngola Kiluanje, in Luanda, held protests on Wednesday, with road closures and tire burning, an action repressed by the police.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, the president of the Association of Bikers and Transporters of Angola (Amotrang), Bento Rafael, distanced himself from the protests, stressing that it was an initiative led by the local community.
"The claim comes from residents of the Uíje neighborhood, who claim against the poor condition of the road. Last year, we placed a biker sign in this area to serve the communities at the request of the communities themselves, because they knew that taxis did not reach the places of residence and even workplaces for those who work in companies in these neighborhoods", he explained.
