According to videos to which the Lusa agency had access, at least one person died during the incidents, whose authorship was initially attributed to motorcycle taxi drivers who carry out their activity in that area, supposedly to claim improvement of the roads and contest the impediment of the his work by the police.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, the president of the Association of Bikers and Transporters of Angola (Amotrang), Bento Rafael, distanced himself from the protests, stressing that it was an initiative led by the local community.

“The claim comes from residents of the Uíje neighborhood, who claim the poor condition of the road. Last year we placed a biker sign in this area to serve the communities at the request of the communities themselves, because they knew that taxis did not reach the places of residence and even the workplaces for those who work in companies in these neighborhoods”, he explained. .

Bento Rafael stressed that in Luanda, almost all points are served by motorcycle taxis, the only ones able to leave customers at the door of the house in the interior of the neighbourhoods.

Some videos about the incident have circulated, and in one of them it is possible to see a person on the ground, apparently dead. According to the person responsible for Amotrang, he is a minor under 16 years old.

Lusa contacted the police to find out under what circumstances that death occurred and for more information about the case, with the spokesman for the Luanda provincial command of the National Police, Nestor Goubel, forwarding more information for later.

Also speaking to Lusa, Vita Francisco, a resident on the outskirts of the Cimangola neighborhood, said that the protests took place on the morning of this Wednesday and that he noticed the road closures when he left home to go to work.
