Political parties consider that Angola will start an “atypical” judicial year

Political parties considered this Monday that Angola will start an "atypical" judicial year, marked by the alleged involvement of judges in corruption cases, defending a reflection to "return to the country the dignity that this area needs".

Speaking to the Lusa Agency, the vice president of the National Union Parliamentary Group for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Mihaela Weba highlighted two major priorities for the new judicial year, whose opening is scheduled for Wednesday.

Mihaela Weba considered the main priority to separate powers between the judicial and the executive.

"The judicial power has to be actually autonomous, independent and impartial and to carry out justice in accordance with the Constitution and the law, this is the first priority. Judicial power cannot constantly receive orders from the executive branch," she said.

The UNITA MP pointed out as the second major priority the appreciation of human resources, namely salary and formative.

According to Mihaela Weba, the Angolan law establishes the court courts and it is necessary to work, which is not happening "for lack of both infrastructure and specialized human resources".

"Then we have the issue of wage dignity of all people who work in the justice sector, from judicial magistrates, prosecutors, court officials, all these people have to effectively see their career progression, their salary appreciation, so that they can be motivated to provide a good service to justice and there are no tendencies of corruption", she stressed.

The vice-president of the Unita Parliamentary Group highlighted "the scandals" with which Angolans are daily to give birth to the alleged involvement of justice agents in cases of corruption, who "demonstrate that they are actually the fact that they are gaining little allows magistrates to gain little may resort to corruption schemes so that they can help their daily needs".

"To avoid this I think the third priority would be the salary appreciation of the justice sector actors," she said.

About the silence of the institutions around the information about the alleged involvement of the Presidents of the Supreme Court and the Court of Auditors, Mihaela Weba is of the opinion that "if Angola were a true rule of democratic law, the Attorney General's Office [PGR], as a defender body of democratic legality, would have acted in accordance. "

"The fact that the Attorney General's Office receives orders from the holder of the Executive Power makes only inquiries open in what is the interest of the President of the Republic," she said, stressing that in what is not his interest " open and this is wrong".

"We will start an atypical judicial year, with a Attorney General who ended the term, it is not known whether it is a dismissal or not, the news says that he is a dismissal, however, the President of the Republic does not name a new PGR," said the deputy, remembering equally that the provision of justice is without working conditions, namely sufficient condition and human resources, to fulfill what should be its role, by mediator between rulers and governed.

"On the other hand, we have two counselor judges president with terrible corruption scandals, which the institutions say nothing, the courts that also do not speak and, therefore, it is the opening of a judicial year, unfortunately, atypical, because of these scandals all of corruption", she said.

In turn, the secretary general party of social renewal, Rui Malopa, considered that justice is the guarantee of freedoms, the rights of citizens.

"But unfortunately, this is not what happens, for some time that the country has seen its image plunged into the mud, by those who should ensure, to guarantee, the exercise of justice, they are being accused of being indecent acts to practice acts, immoral", he added.

"To be true is not good for the country, which wants justice truly assuming itself, that justice is an autonomous and independent body. So, even pinch, the citizen is not realized where to lean against, now that one will open a Judicial year, I understand that the whole action of people, judges and all people around this process of the application of justice are competed, reflect and see what they have to do to return to the country the dignity that this area needs that she deserves, to actually give citizens confidence about her application", he said.
