"At a time when #Europe is called upon to respond to enormous challenges, it is essential, more than ever, that we continue to value our relationship with #Africa", wrote António Costa, on Twitter.

"I participate, in Addis Ababa, in the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, as an observer", explained, in another 'tweet', the Portuguese head of government.

On the sidelines of the work, the Portuguese official held bilateral meetings with officials from countries such as Rwanda, Niger or Madagascar.

Throughout the day, meetings were planned with Angola and Guinea-Bissau. António Costa met with the President of Mozambique during the Luso-Mozambican summit, last September, and was also recently in Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe.

In addition to African leaders, the summit will be attended by the UN Secretary General, António Guterres; the director general of the International Organization for Migration, António Vitorino; the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the Prime Minister of Palestine, Mohammad Shtayyeh.
