The Brazilian President, Lula da Silva, said on Friday that he wants to visit Angola, Mozambique and South Africa soon, in order to "restart Brazil's strong relationship with the African continent",

According to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazil has a "debt that cannot be paid in cash" with Africa, which is why it will try to help the continent through the transfer of science and technology.

"I am now certainly organizing a trip to three African countries: I want to go to Angola, South Africa and Mozambique, in a demonstration that Brazil is going to resume its strong relationship with the African continent", said Lula after leaving the White House, in Washington, where he met with the US President, Joe Biden, moments before.

When asked by a journalist if he had any intention of visiting Angola, Lula replied that he did, without mentioning dates, and stating that Brazil "owes much of its culture to the African continent."

"It is a debt that cannot be paid in cash. It has to be paid in exchange for science and technology, in help that Brazil can give from the point of view of development in various areas. We are going to do this because it is a historic and humanitarian obligation of Brazil, maintain a beautiful relationship with the African continent", he added.

Particularly in relation to Angola, the head of state said that the relationship between the two countries "has always been very good", stressing that his country was "the first to recognize Angola's independence".

Relations between Brasilia and Africa changed during the government of Jair Bolsoanro, who became the first Brazilian president not to visit an African country, according to the Brazilian press.

Lula has at least four more international trips planned for this year. In March he should go to China, and in April, to Portugal.

The President should also attend the G20 summit in September, in India, and the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in the United States, also in September.
