(Re)launch of production of robusta coffee among Cuanza Sul bets

The government of the province of Cuanza Sul is betting on the relaunch of production of robusta coffee. Emília Tchinawalile, deputy governor of Cuanza Sul for the political, economic and social sector, said that it was “necessary to invest in and revitalize coffee culture so that” the province “becomes a leader in the production of this product and can promote its brand in the country and abroad".

"It is necessary to invest in and revitalize the coffee culture so that Cuanza Sul becomes a leader in the production of this product and can promote its brand in the country and abroad", said the official, quoted by Angop.

"In this sense, I appeal to technicians in the sector to transmit experience to farmers, with a view to guaranteeing a greater impact of the agrarian sector in the diversification of our economy", added Emília Tchinawalile, who was speaking this Wednesday, at a meeting of the Provincial Technical Commission for the Relaunch of Robusta Coffee.

According to Angop, the deputy governor, who said that the government will continue to invest in the production of this type of coffee, in order to give dynamism to the sector and collaborate in the diversification of the economy, also left the guarantee that the executive will provide support to peasant families who show interest in the production of that crop, with a view to ensuring greater production and sale of this good at regional level.

Among the bets of the provincial government, he added, there is also the production of palm trees and cocoa.

Nascimento Kaponde, head of the provincial department of the National Coffee Institute, made it known that last year the entity was able to produce more than 200,000 seedlings, which are being distributed to regional producers at zero cost, writes Angop.

He also referred that the sector will continue to "work to produce more seedlings", considering that "this is the only way it will be possible" to increase the coffee growing areas in Cuanza Sul: "The sector will continue to work to produce more seedlings. this is the only way it will be possible to increase the areas of coffee cultivation in the province, since we are replacing old plantations, with more than 50 years of life, with new ones", he said, quoted by Angop.
