"On February 21, 2022, Fundação Cuerama inaugurated the Maria Luz Albuquerque Library and the Training Center at Cuerama School, Lonhe commune, Quibala municipality, Cuanza Sul Province, within the scope of its social educational project", it can be read in a statement sent to VerAngola.
Called "Distance from a Click", the project implemented by the foundation - which has two institutional partners, Deloitte and NCR Angola - aims to "fight the total isolation of a rural community, Aldeia Cuerama, by introducing online tools that serve as a accelerator engine for sustainable development".
To this end, conditions were created for access to solar energy and the Internet, in order to allow "the training of skills, in person and online, as well as the installation of digital technology in the Library and in the Training Center".
A training program that will "train teachers, students, mothers and the community in general, in Aldeia Cuerama", the note said.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State for Education for Pre-School and General Education, Pacheco Francisco, from the team of the Angola National Commission for UNESCO (CNU-Angola), the President of Deloitte Angola, José Cheap, among others.
At the ceremony, Pacheco Francisco made the opening speech, stressing that the Ministry of Education "welcomes initiatives aimed at combating the problem of school-age children outside the education and teaching system, appealing and encouraging the replication of the action at the national".
He also classified the opening of the library and the training center as an asset for the training of students.
The Permanent Secretary of CNU-Angola, Alexandre Costa, considered that "the actions carried out within the project are linked to the areas of action of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and that these must be shared internationally".
José Barata, in turn, applauded the project, having shown himself to be "available to maintain the links between the Cuerama Foundation and Deloitte", adding that the project "At the Distance of a Click" won the "Deloitte social responsibility program, Pact Fund 2020, whose mission is to finance social projects in the areas of training, capacity building, employability and entrepreneurship".
The act also included the intervention of the foundation's president, Olga Albuquerque, who summarized the foundation's history and thanked the presence of "distinguished individuals and other project collaborators".
"For this year, the construction of the Medical Center, Casa dos Voluntários, a water hole and the bread oven are planned", completes the note.
