Government guarantees that investment in tourism will have environmental concerns

The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment said this Tuesday that the diversification of the economy in the tourism sector will have environmental concerns, highlighting measures such as the transformation of plastic into fuel or the desalination of sea water.

:

The authorities are trying to turn plastic, which is thrown into the sea and creates "a huge problem for biodiversity", into fuel, as a way of trying to boost tourism, making prices cheaper, because it spends a lot on fuel. , said Filipe Zau, at a press conference, after a meeting with the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which took place this Tuesday at the headquarters of this organisation, in Lisbon.

In addition, he stressed, the authorities are "looking at the issue of desalination of sea water for areas where there is no water", with a "first experience in the desert".

"We know that in the Namibe desert, where there is a lack of water, there are fantastic beaches, but there is no way to promote tourism without water and without energy," he added.

The reduction of carbon is another of Angola's environmental concerns, he guaranteed, but to solve this problem, work is needed not only from his ministry, but also from that of education.

"The environmental issue is transversal and we must face it as a form of full exercise of citizenship and coexistence, with respect for identity and diversity", he underlined.

About today's meeting at the CPLP, the minister of Angola - the country that holds the rotating presidency of the organization - said: "We are finalizing the final preparations for the Luanda Capital of Culture [of the CPLP] and also for the anniversary of the Portuguese Language, 5th of May".

On the initiative of the "Capital of Culture CPLP", "a set of cultural activities" is planned around that community, with "books, records, cinema, children's songs, among others, involving fairs and all countries".

The aim, he said, is to show that "culture can also be important".

"The idea is that culture only costs money, but the cultural industries also produce and contribute to GDP, and that is what we are going to be a little more concerned about," said the minister, also admitting to holding conferences and debates and of a meeting of Lusophone writers.

The executive secretary of the CPLP, Zacarias da Costa, said that during the meeting with the Minister of Culture, some sectoral meetings under the tutelage of Filipe Zau were discussed and "ways of future work were articulated regarding the realization of some initiatives, namely 'Luanda Capital da Cultura da CPLP' and also within the scope of the World Day of Portuguese Language and Culture, which is celebrated on 5 May".

For this year, the ordinary meeting of the ministers of Culture and, possibly, the meeting of the ministers of Tourism of the CPLP are also planned.

In addition to the meeting with Zacarias da Costa at the CPLP, the minister visited the Casa do Artista, in Lisbon, a way to get to know "what you can do from the point of view of social support for the artist", the minister also said.

"The artist is an individual who feels bad after spending his time of success, because he no longer has support and work. We wanted to raise a little more the self-esteem of our artists and give them a little more support. ", he assured.
