Diamonds: belgian businessmen interested in the angolan market

Businessmen from Belgium are interested in the angolan diamond market. Jazef Smets, Belgium's ambassador to Angola, said that business groups from the World Diamond Center in Antwerp, who want to set up diamond processing factories in Angola, should soon arrive in the country.

Cited by Jornal de Angola, the Belgian ambassador underlined the fact that it is important to consolidate the capacity of this sector in Angola, "in the logic of the transfer of competences, which they have in Antwerp due to their proximity", with the aim that the Angolan market takes advantage of the mineral resources through the sale of products as well as the creation of job opportunities for young people.

According to Jazef Smets, the belgian employees "value the quality of diamonds from Angola", having "all respect for the ambition of the Angolan authorities to build a more professional diamond sector, with added value".

Thus, he continued, "it is better to work" in Angola "in order to diversify contracts" in Angola than in Antwerp.

"Our conclusion is that we have to create a space, climate or instruments of proximity, encourage entrepreneurs so that the private sector assumes the main role in the activity, which involves creating favorable tax conditions to maintain the presence of investors" , he considered, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

The ambassador also admitted that the construction of infrastructure by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas represents an incentive for investors from Antwerp to come to the Angolan market.
