According to an official communiqué, which cites statements by Téte António to the press at the end of the meeting, Angola considers Equatorial Guinea "an important engine in the region and on the African continent and, at the same time, it is also an opportunity to exchange views with the [President] Obianga Nguema Mbasogo on regional issues, as Angola currently holds the presidency of the CPLP".
"We were bearers of a message that our President (...) sends to his counterpart (...). A message that is part of the good relations between Angola and Equatorial Guinea", added Téte António.
At the hearing, on the Equato-Guinean side, the minister delegate of the Presidency of the Republic, in the missions department, Job Obiang Esono, as well as the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, Economy and Planning, Pedro Nguema Ndong and Valentin Ela Maye were present, respectively.
The Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) includes, in addition to Angola and Equatorial Guinea, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
The statement, distributed by the press office of the government of Equatorial Guinea, added that President Teodoro Obang also received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by the head of the organization's representation in the country, Mariana Colacelli.
Speaking to the press, Mariana Colacelli, highlighted that "issues related to the Government's program in financial sector policies and to see the different ways in which the IMF can support the country to achieve the objectives of its economic program" were discussed.
The ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, Economy and Planning were also present at the audience with the IMF delegation.
