MPLA mourns death of former minister and former ambassador Gilberto Buta Lutucuta

In a statement, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) regretted the death of Gilberto Buta Lutucuta this Friday morning, victim of illness.

In the condolences message, released by the Secretariat of the MPLA Political Bureau, the party stresses that it was with "deep pain and consternation" that it learned of the death of Gilberto Buta Lutucuta, who performed diplomatic functions in Guinea-Conakry and Ivory Coast.

Gilberto Buta Lutucuta, 80 years old, was born in Bailundo, Huambo province, and began his political activity against the colonial regime in 1959, at the Clandestine Progressive Political Nucleus to Support the Angolan Liberation and Independence Movement.

"Later, in 1977, as instructor of the Organization of Popular Defense (ODP), and officer Instructor of the Battalions of the Reserve troops, Gilberto Buta Lutucuta was proposed to be a member of the Central Committee of the MPLA", and to whom the party highlights "the his spirit of dedication to the noblest causes of the Angolan people".

Still in the colonial period, Gilberto Buta Lutucuta worked in the agricultural sector, having already held the post of Minister of Agriculture after independence.

"In this moment of pain and mourning, the Secretariat of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, on behalf of the militants, sympathizers and friends of the MPLA, bows before his memory and addresses the deepest feelings of sorrow to the bereaved family", concludes the MPLA note.
