Sonagás: butane gas storage capacity increases from 4800 to 7200 cubic meters

Sonagás increased its butane gas storage capacity. The information was provided by Manuel Barros, president of the Executive Board (PCE) of the company, who informed that the capacity had increased from 4800 to 7200 cubic meters.

Speaking at a press conference, Manuel Barros explained that this increase was possible because of the placement of the third sphere, carried out earlier this month, enabling the fixing of valves for each reservoir.

In addition, the official also took the opportunity to announce that the company's gas filling units, located in Panguila (Bengo) and Zango (Luanda), have increased their daily filling capacity: the filling is now 10 thousand bottles of gas cylinders, against the previous 3500.

Cited by Angop, the institution's PCE indicated that this action is part of a package of measures adopted by Sonagás since the beginning of February, with the aim of stabilizing the market for this product, which resulted from a great demand for gas in recent days in Luanda.

The sale of more than 28,000 12-kilogram bottles, an increase in the number of workers on shifts and the availability of transporters to assist in the distribution of gas at filling stations, are other measures adopted by the Sonangol subsidiary.

The official assured that the market is already recovering, estimating that in a few days the scenario will normalize: "Every recovery takes some time, so we believe that in the coming days the difficulty of access to butane gas will be overcome".

He also stressed that there is no shortage of gas in the country, noting that "Sonagás has increased its storage capacity from two to four days, with the entry into operation of a reservoir with a capacity of 2400 cubic meters".

Teams are on the ground to inspect operations at the main points of sale, he said, explaining that the measure serves to ensure that the product reaches consumers at a fair price.

He also referred that, at the moment, the company's central unit, located in the capital, fills 45,000 bottles of butane gas daily, writes Angop.

Last year, he said, the company sold 341,000 metric tons and for this year the goal is to reach 400,000 metric tons. In order to overcome the challenge, the company has carried out a restructuring of the country's main gas supply unit, such as increasing storage capacity, building a workshop to repair bottles, among others.
