The applications for the scholarships, which concern the academic year 2020/2023, are already open and the deadline for submitting them ends on April 16.
According to Expansão, four master's scholarships will be made available for Angolan students. The scholarships are in the areas of public administration, political science, agricultural economy, communication, and public health, among others.
Candidates will have to meet certain requirements if they want to apply: they must be Angolan citizens currently residing in the country, have a four-year degree (including the defense of a degree thesis), and speak fluent English.
On this last point, applicants must prove their proficiency in English by taking a test provided by the embassy, or attach their Test of English as a Foreing Language (TOEFL) scores if the applicant has already taken one.
Applicants with a three-year degree are required to complete an additional year of undergraduate study.
Applicants who have previously received a Fullbright scholarship, have dual citizenship (American and Angolan), have earned a degree or university in the United States, are not living in Angola at the time of application, or have had extensive academic or professional experience in the United States, are excluded from the program.
The Fullbright program was created in 1998 and allows people from other countries to earn a Master's degree, in person, in American universities. Since its creation, the program has awarded scholarships to 54 Angolans.
