Africell wants to create more than 6000 jobs with its arrival in the country

Africell, a U.S. telecommunications operator, plans to create over 6,000 jobs in Angola. The promise was left during the signing ceremony of the concession contract to provide electronic communications services, signed this Wednesday between the operator and the Angolan Communications Institute (INACOM).

Ziad Dalloul, president of Africell executive commission, took the occasion to affirm that the entrance of the operator in the Angolan market - foreseen for the third quarter of this year, with a value of 300 million dollars - will bring to the country faster and quality services at low prices.

In support of the thesis of Africell's director, Alé Fernandes, president of INACOM's board of directors (PCA), indicated that he hopes that the entry of this operator into the country will increase the quality of the telecommunications sector.

Cited by Angop, the INACOM PCA expects the sector's competition to grow due to the increase in the quality of products and services and the offer of attractive prices to the population.

The entry of Africell will put the sector in a new phase of development and, according to the head of INACOM, will help to build new generation networks and facilitate universal access to telephone and internet services.

He also made it known that the government is strengthening the allocation of multi-service licenses because he considers it important to continue the strategy of opening the market as well as promoting the expansion of infrastructure and service provision.

The Secretary of State for Telecommunications, Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira, admitted that the entry of this operator in the national market represents a great milestone for the sector, writes Angop.

Considering that Africell will help to solve some of the population's communication problems, he revealed that the government's objective is to improve the telecommunications sector and thus guarantee mobile network communication at more affordable prices.

Among the Executive's objectives is the creation of conditions for general internet access, the fight against info-exclusion and the increase of digital literacy.

To this end, the Executive intends to ensure the development of the infrastructures that support the provision of these services, he said.

Nina Maria Fite, the United States Ambassador to Angola, who was present at the ceremony, also revealed that this is a major investment by the United States outside the oil sector.

"It is a great investment outside the oil sector, which shows how American investment in Angola is growing," she said.

Africell Group formalized this Wednesday the contract with the Government to become the fourth global telecommunications operator and start offering services later this year. Angola is the fifth market where the Africell Group will have operations, joining Uganda, Sierra Leone, Gambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where it already has a base of 12 million customers.
