Angola's first game, counting for the second qualifying round of the competition, takes place last Friday: the national team took the field to face the Mozambican national team.
The 'Palancas Negras' proved to be stronger and beat Mozambique by 91-68.
On Saturday, it was Angola's turn to face Kenya. The result was not as satisfactory as the previous day: the national team ended up losing by one point (73-74).
The victory of the Kenyans, who went into halftime down 28-39, was decided at the final whistle. Taylor Ongwae made the last shot of the game, ensuring the victory for Kenya by one point difference.
According to Angop, the Kenyan's throw raised doubts, which forced the referees to analyze the throw through television images to confirm whether it had been made before the end of the game.
On Sunday, the 'Palancas Negras' entered the field to play the last game of the group stage.
The national team ended up closing the second qualifying round with a victory. Angola beat Senegal by 82-51.
In the first round of the competition, which took place in November last year, Angola beat Mozambique by 87-58 and Kenya by 83-66. However, it lost the game against Senegal (66-51).
All in all, Angola is through to the next phase of the championship. The national team finished second in the group with 10 points. Senegal led the group with 11 points. Kenya is the third qualified (eight points) and Mozambique is in last place with seven points, having been eliminated from the competition.
Note that since 1983, the Angolan selection has won the Afrobasket 11 times.
